about

Sound it Out is the latest hook-filled, lyrically explicit single from Galway-based male- diva sensation Steven Sharpe and his unwitting backing band ‘The Broke Straight Boys’.

Featuring Mariah Carey-inspired vocal gymnastics, Studio 54-tight rhythms and a slick chorus guitar riff any 90’s alternative band would have killed for, the song takes the listener on a flamboyant aural roller-coaster, winding and weaving its way through twice as many sections as the average 4-minute 4-chord pop song.

Inspired by the sexual-confused misadventures of an Irish small-town miscreant, Sharpe paints a picture of rebellious deeds and disastrous consequences against a backdrop of upbeat musical themes that range from disco to hard rock. Think Freddie Mercury backed by a band part Chic, part Nirvana.

Steven Sharpe is undoubtedly one of Ireland's best-kept secrets but has made a name for himself in the Galway’s thriving music scene, performing his own brand of out'n'proud music with a live show that must be seen to be believed. His veracious, witty, and soulful musical presence blends music, humour and storytelling and draws influences from Prince to Kate Bush to Nina Simone. In 2015 he started performing with ‘The Broke Straight Boys’ a backing band made up of Galway’s most competent and versatile musicians and since has played sold-out shows and festivals all over Ireland.

‘Sound it Out’ was released 27th of April 2018 on all major streaming and downloading sites.

lyrics

Sound it out
He keeps calling me over
But all I want is closure
Crimson and clover
I'm trying to act sober
The back of Arravale Rovers
Don't say that its over
He keeps on edging closer
I keep on clocking boners
Don't lose your conposure
Just get your legs around my shoulders
Like a good soldier

And fucking bend me over
You're such a good soldier

See I wanna piece of you
See deep inside my basket case you know my love is true
And I want you here with me
But deep inside my basket case is where you ought to be

And if I had a body like his oh
I'd never wear a shirt
And if I had a body like his oh
I'd never need to flirt
And if I had a body like his oh
Without putting in the work
And if I could have a body like his oh
And if I had a body like his ooh yeah

You see I flee, I flow, I fold like a letter
No one would love you better or get that dick wetter
You're tied to your tether, I'll weather your weather
But all I want you do to my love it take off that sweater

And God knows why I picked that rose
Held it to his nose, I felt so exposed
So I told him all the fears, that I've been "hanging on for years"
And its become very clear this is a love so severe
So severe

"So get that fine ass over here"

Lets just make one thing clear, my dear, you here?
See I wanna pace of you
See deep in side my basket case you know my love is true
And I want you here with me
But deep inside my basket case is you ought to be

And if I had a body like his oh
I'd never wear a shirt
And if I had a body like his oh
I'd never need to flirt
And if I had a body like his oh
Without putting in the work
And if I had a body like his oh
And if I had a body like his oh yeah

"Oh little gayby, are you in love with a straight boy?"
He said "Maybe? who's know to know?"
"Oh little gayby, are you in love with a straight boy?"
He said "Maybe? He left a note"

So I sound it out
He keeps calling me over
But all I want is closure
Crimson and clover
I'm trying to act sober
The back of Arravale Rovers
Don't say that its over
He keeps on edging closer
I keep on clocking boners
Don't lose your conposure
Just get your legs around my shoulders
Like a good soldier

"Oh baby baby why you treat me this way
Won't you tell which team do you wanna play?
Oh baby baby don't push me away
Won't you tell which bed would you rather lay?
Oh baby baby now don't be ashamed
It doesn't matter if you're straight, if you're bi or gay
Oh baby baby don't push me away
it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter"
